About Judge Poole
Judge Poole presently serves as the Chief Judge for the Cobb Judicial Circuit. He was elected to the Cobb County Superior Court in July of 2012, taking office January 1, 2013. Prior to joining the Superior Court, Judge Poole served on the Cobb County Juvenile Court for nearly ten years. As a Superior Court Judge he presides over a wide variety of cases including family law matters, civil and criminal trials (both jury and non-jury), and actions involving land and equity. He was elected Chief Judge of the Superior Court by his colleagues with his term beginning January 9, 2023.
Judge Poole graduated from Presbyterian College in 1982. He attended Cumberland School of Law of Samford University, where he received his juris doctor in 1985. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Bench and Bar Committee), the Cobb County Bar Association, the Cobb Justice Foundation, and The Charles Weltner Family Law American Inn of Court (where he is Master of the Bench and serves on its Executive Committee). He served as President of the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges in 2012 and is a Trustee of the Georgia Institute of Continuing Judicial Education. He is a graduate of the George Mason Univ. Judicial Education Program Advanced Economics Institute for Judges. In 2004 he was awarded the Distinguished Judicial Service Award by the Younger Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Georgia. In 2016 he received the West Cobb County Citizen of the Year Award. Judge Poole is involved with several local charities, including the Marietta Schools Foundation and the Marietta Pops Orchestra.
Judge Poole was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, attending its public schools. He is married to Lucia Poole, who is an Assistant Principal for Cobb County Schools. Together, they have five children. They are members of Marietta First United Methodist Church.
