Project Information

Completed in April 2020, the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study (also known as the Chattahoochee RiverLands project or The RiverLands) is a regional planning document envisioning the future of the Chattahoochee River corridor as developed via a cooperative partnership among Cobb County, ARC, Trust for Public Lands and the City of Atlanta.

Cobb County’s Chattahoochee River Trail Pedestrian Improvements project (also known as the RiverLands Pilot Project) is the first project being implemented. It will test and demonstrate goals, design strategies, and material applications developed in the broader Greenway Study.

This project will construct approximately 2.4 miles of trail (1.7 miles of paved trails and 0.7 miles of unpaved pedestrian-only rambles) between Mableton Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway. Bridges are proposed across Nickajack Creek and over a smaller creek located in the western portion of the site. The concept also provides connectivity to future tributary trails planned along Mableton Parkway and Nickajack Creek.

This project was split into two phases based on project funding:

  • Phase 1 is fully funded and includes improvements between Nickajack Creek and Veterans Memorial Highway. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in early 2023.
  • Phase 2 includes improvements and bridges between Nickajack Creek and Mableton Parkway. Funding is still being sought for this phase.
