Cobb County and six cities ratify service delivery agreement
Marietta, GA (August 15, 2024)—Chairwoman Lisa Cupid signed the Service Delivery Strategy agreement Thursday that governs how the county and its six cities manage service duplication.
The agreement came after a two-day mediation last month. The county and the cities negotiated a payment by the county to the cities for those services provided by the cities to unincorporated residents, such as parks, libraries, and senior services.
“The county and cities have been working together for decades as one Cobb,” Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said. “This has been an arduous effort but an important one to ensure we tax our citizens fairly regarding the services we provide. I appreciate all of the work that took place from the commissioners to those with the cities to find a path forward that meets the interests of all parties in these negotiations.”
The agreement provides that the county will reimburse cities starting at $6.5 million this year and with annual increases of up to $11 million over the next ten years. The agreement could be revisited once the Mableton transition period ends in 2025.
The agreement will be sent to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which will review it to ensure compliance with state regulations.
