Statement on Cobb County District Maps and Current Commission Makeup

August 28, 2024—Following the August 27, 2024, Board of Commissioners meeting, county staff removed links and images of the “home rule” commission map from the county website. These have been replaced with the district map approved by the state legislature.

The change was made after a recent ruling by a Superior Court judge, which declared the use of home rule powers to draw a commission map unconstitutional and direction by the Board that the state map is to be used for all future county purposes.  Staff is now working to remove references to the previous map from applications and work products, a process that may take several days.

During the same meeting, board members declined to approve notice to the sitting District 2 Commissioner that the appointment process would commence, allowing Commissioner Jerica Richardson to continue serving as the district’s representative.
