UPDATE December 24 

Cobb DOT's tally for Friday calls showed 21 trees blocking roadways, treated four roads for icy conditions, and dealt with one sinkhole.  Cobb Fire also handled multiple tree calls, along with busted pipe situations and some structural damage from a tree.

The dangerous cold will continue through Christmas.  The National Weather Service has extended the Wind Chill Advisory for Cobb until 1 pm on Christmas Day.

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 10 below zero.

* WHEN...Until noon EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia and/or frostbite if precautions are not taken.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lows in the single digits are expected Saturday morning. In addition, windy conditions are anticipated with west to northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with frequent gusts of 30 to 40 mph likely.

All roads in Cobb County are clear at this hour, but please use caution as crews are still out dealing with fallen trees.

Cobb County DOT crews cleared multiple trees blocking roadways, many in the pre-dawn hours, and dealt with several reports of ice on roadways (including Hiram-Lithia Springs Road, Davis Road, Bryant Lane, Due West Road, and others).

There are reports of wind chill values around -2F, so please limit your time outdoors.

Cobb County is under a WIND CHILL ADVISORY from midnight Thursday night through noon on Saturday.
Cobb County is under a WIND ADVISORY from 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 p.m. Friday.

Governor Kemp has declared a State of Emergency for Georgia as sub-freezing weather is expected to impact the state starting Friday morning.  Although there is the possibility of some snow and ice early Friday morning, the dangerous wind chills we will experience are the most concerning issue.  Cobb County will likely experience three consecutive days where the temperature does not rise above freezing.

Weather Forecast Highlights

• The cold front is expected to move through Cobb between midnight and 6 a.m. Friday
• Any precipitation that falls will be light and likely not accumulate in Cobb
• Temperatures are trending colder, with wind chills around -4 to -5 in Cobb between 6 a.m. and noon Friday
• Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for three straight days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Wind gusts of 40-50 mph in Cobb could cause trees to fall and scattered power outages

Here are some crucial bits of information on the county's response:

Cobb Department of Transportation
Crews will be on duty to respond to reports of hazardous road conditions Friday morning.  Teams will also be available to respond to reports of trees down on roadways and signal outages due to power outages.

CobbLinc Routes
CobbLinc paratransit and fixed routes will delay the start of service until 7:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday due to anticipated frigid conditions.  There may be other impacts to service as the day goes on.

I-75 / 575 Express Lanes
Georgia DOT will close the express lanes through Cobb Thursday night through Friday and will evaluate road conditions before determining when to open them.
