The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) has awarded Cobb’s PARKS Director, Michael Brantley, their Distinguished Professional Award for 2024. Brantley was honored for his outstanding and lasting contributions to the field of parks, recreation, and leisure services, where he has demonstrated visionary leadership and a commitment to community enrichment. Throughout his extensive career, beginning in Dublin, Georgia, Brantley has made a profound impact at both local and state levels. In his 21 years with Cherokee County’s Parks and Recreation, he mastered the complexities of operations and secured a pivotal $90 million bond to expand park facilities and enhance community spaces. Today, in his role with Cobb County, he continues his advocacy for capital improvements, safety, and accessibility, leaving a lasting mark on the communities he serves.

Brantley’s influence extends beyond local contributions; his leadership has also been instrumental within the GRPA. Serving in various roles, including District 5 Chair and GRPA President, he has contributed to numerous committees—Membership, Annual Conference, and Hall of Fame Nominations—further advancing the field. Representing Georgia nationally as a member of the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials, Brantley exemplifies dedication to excellence and lifelong learning in parks and recreation. His career reflects the true spirit of the Distinguished Professional Award, as he continually elevates the standard of service in parks and recreation for the benefit of communities across Georgia.
