This office cannot provide direction or guidance on the ramifications of the "Constitutional Carry" legislation, which is now in effect, other than to note that this legislation did not affect the issuance of Weapons Carry Licenses.

Obtaining a Weapons Carry License in Cobb County
In order to obtain a weapons carry license in Georgia, you are required to be photographed, fingerprinted, and must undergo a criminal background investigation by the GBI and FBI.
Upon receipt of the background investigations, if there is nothing to prohibit the issuance of your license, we will issue your license to you. The background investigations may take as long as one month. The license is valid for five years, unless revoked.
To apply for a weapons carry license, you must:
- Apply for your weapons carry license in the county in which you are domiciled
- Be at least 21 years of age
- If you are 18-20 years of age, you may apply for a weapons carry license if adequate proof of the following is provided to the court:
- That you have completed basic training and
- That you are actively serving in the armed forces of the United States or that you have been honorably discharged from such service.

Retired Law Enforcement Officers
Applicants who are retired law enforcement officers must bring in documentation showing their retired status as well as documents that indicate they served as a law enforcement officer for 10 of the 12 years immediately preceding the retirement of such person as a law enforcement officer.

Though not required, if you would like to change the address on your Georgia Weapons Carry License issued from Cobb County you will need to come into this Court to fill out an address change request form. You will need to provide your Driver’s License or Government-issued Identification card showing your new address. The fee to issue an updated Georgia Weapons Carry License is $6.00. If it is outside the renewal period, you must coordinate with the Court that issued your license regarding their procedures to change your address. Additionally, if you choose to change your address, the original permit must be surrendered to the court, and you must wait for the new one to be mailed, which takes approximately 1-2 weeks.
No, the Court DOES NOT notify you when it is time to renew your Weapons Carry License. The renewal period for a Georgia Weapons Carry License is when there is less than 90 days before expiration, but no more than 30 days after expiration. For further information, visit our website here.
