Cobb County Water System (CCWS) owns and maintains over 2,600 miles of wastewater (sewer) collection mains starting at 8 inches in size and goes up to 72 inches, 46 miles of wastewater force mains ranging from 4 inches to 42 inches in size, and over 3,100 miles of water distribution mains ranging from 6 inches to 20 inches. The responsibility of maintenance and repair of these large and complex underground conveyance systems is undertaken by over 110 hardworking and dedicated employees spread across three divisions of CCWS. Through inspections and troubleshooting, CCWS is actively working to provide a critical service and while simultaneously protecting the environment. Our proactive maintenance efforts serve to address many potential issues before a catastrophic failure occurs. Our comprehensive and preventative approach with maintenance saves our customers money from water loss, protects streams health from wastewater contamination, and ultimately ensures the sustainability of the most valuable resource water.

Why was my water service interrupted?

Water service was temporarily interrupted due to essential repairs on the water system. This is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of your water supply.

Is my water safe to drink after repairs?

After repairs, the water may be discolored or have sediment. It’s generally safe to drink. Run cold water for 10-15 minutes at the front water spigot (where you connect a water hose) to clear it. Then go inside and run water in discolored areas until clear If the issue persists, contact Emergency Dispatch at 770-419-6201 If there are any safety concerns, we will notify you with specific instructions (e.g., a boil water advisory on the website https://www.cobbcounty.org/water ).

What should I do if my water pressure is low?

Will I be compensated for the service interruption?

Service interruptions may be necessary during routine or emergency maintenance, and compensation is not provided. We apologize for any inconvenience because of the maintenance/repair work.

What should I do if I notice a problem after repairs?

Can I request additional repairs or maintenance on my property?

Repairs outside the public water system (e.g., on private property) are the responsibility of the property owner. For any concerns with public water infrastructure, contact Emergency Dispatch at 770-419-6201.

Why was there a disruption in sewer services?

Sewer services were temporarily disrupted due to essential repairs on the sewer system. This work is critical to maintain proper function and prevent future issues such as backups or spills.

Is it safe to use my plumbing after the repairs?

Yes, it is safe to resume normal use of your plumbing. If you notice any issues, please contact Emergency Dispatch at 770-419-6201.

What should I do if I experience slow drainage or backups after repairs?

If you notice slow drainage or sewer backups, do not add water additional water. Report it to Emergency Dispatch @ 770-419-6201, as additional repairs may be required.

Will there be an odor after repairs?

It’s possible to notice a temporary odor after sewer repairs due to the disturbance of the system. This should dissipate quickly as the system stabilizes, run water in all fixtures to fill p-traps. If the odor persists for more than 24 hours, please contact Emergency Dispatch at 770-419-6201.

Can I use my appliances (e.g., washing machine, dishwasher) right away?

Yes, once repairs are complete, you can resume using all household appliances that rely on the sewer system. If you experience any issues with drainage, contact Emergency Dispatch at 770-419-6201.

Who is responsible for sewer repairs on my property?

The county manages the public sewer lines, while homeowners are responsible for the sewer pipes within their property. If you suspect an issue with the public sewer line, please note that customers are responsible for maintaining their internal plumbing. The county may have sewer lines located on private property through an easement, and we can verify if the county’s lines are contributing to any sewer issues on your property.
