Course Descriptions
Scratch Ninja (Grades K - 1) Ideal Beginner Coding Series - Build Games, Stories, and Animations
Description This series of fun classes use the Scratch Junior platform, developed by the same MIT team that built the Scratch. While building interactive stories and games, your child will be introduced to the basics of coding concepts, solve problems, and most importantly, create!
Prerequisites: None
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Scratch Ninja (Level 1,2,& 3) Ideal Beginner Coding Series - Build Games, Stories, and Animations
Description This class uses Scratch, a coding platform developed by MIT, as a tool to teach core computer science and coding concepts such as loop, conditional, motion, and sensing. Students will also work on a project in each session ranging from animation, games, to graphic design and storytelling, etc. The class employs a variety of interesting topics to teach logical thinking and inspire creativity, so your kids are not only learning but also creating starting from day one. Kids will be challenged to be creative and solve tough problems while learning the deeper computer science concepts.
Prerequisites: Level 1 - NONE | Level 2 - Previously Create & Learn Scratch Ninja Level 1 class experience | Level 3 - Previously Create & Learn Scratch Ninja 2 class experience
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Junior Robotics (Level 1 & 2) Code your robot to move, sense, lift, and more, all in virtual worlds
Description This Junior Robotics class will teach students how coding is used in robotics through fun, hands-on projects. Students will learn the basics of VEX Code and programming in 3-D. Students will learn how to navigate robots through virtual worlds and complete exciting maze challenges!
Prerequisites: Level 1 - NONE | Level 2 - Previously Create & Learn Junior Robotics Level 1 class experience. Scratch coding experience and familiarity with basic coding blocks are recommended but not required
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Circuit Wizards: Intro to Arduino (Level 1 & 2) Create with circuits and Arduino - the foundation of smart devices
Description We are surrounded by electronics - smartphones, computers, TVs, robots, and more! While lots of students have learned to code, few have had the opportunity to build the physical system which opens up a brand new world. In this class, we introduce students to circuit and Arduino, one of the most popular single-board devices. The class uses an Arduino simulator and does not require a physical device. However, if you prefer, Arduino can be purchased online. The same code will work on the device without any changes.
We start with the basics of electronics. Students will learn how to create circuits, use resistors, and get introduced to Ohm's law, while building a series of cool projects and experiments. We will also code Arduino to start building smart devices that can sense their environment and respond accordingly.
Prerequisites: Level 1 - Scratch coding experience and familiarity with basic coding blocks are strongly recommended. | Level 2 - Previous Create & Learn Circuit Wizards: Intro to Arduino Level 1 class experience.
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
My First Mobile Apps (Level 1 & 2) Create Powerful Mobile Apps Using Simple Intuitive Design and Coding
Description Every year, many billions of apps are downloaded to mobile phones. However, building high-quality mobile apps has been beyond reach to younger coders. But not anymore! In this course, students will learn the basics of the mobile programming environment and how to code their very own apps. They will explore how to employ text, device sensors, and even the camera to build projects and games that involve image recognition, word games, and riddles!
Prerequisites: Level 1 - Scratch coding experience and familiarity with basic coding blocks are strongly | Level 2 - Previously Create & Learn My First Mobile Apps Level 1 class experience. Scratch coding experience and familiarity with basic coding blocks are strongly recommended
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Lights & Beats with Micro:bit (Level 1)(Grades 2-4) Is your child interested in electronics, or may want to build robots or rockets one day?
Description Learn how to control electronic components like LED lights, speakers, and sensors, while building fun games and interactive experiments. Review foundational coding concepts such as loops and conditional statements, and learn more about variables.
Prerequisites: None
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Lights & Beats with Micro:bit - Level 2 (Grades 2-4) Build more fun games, while exploring advanced Micro:Bit features such as radio and buttons.
Description Find out how to have two Micro:Bits message each other. Plus learn how to code functions, and even master some cool math and security concepts.
Prerequisites: Completion of Lights & Beats with Micro:bit - Level 1
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Python for AI (Artificial Intelligence) - Level 1 (Grades 5-6) Do you want your child to be ahead of the coding game?
Description In this first unit of our Python for kids coding course, we start to learn core concepts of Python syntax, loop, data types, variables, and a lot more. We build a smooth transition for kids to uplevel from block coding such as Scratch, to text-based coding. They will learn fundamental Python skills as they build creative stories, animations and games. Basic topics will include using Python syntax, variables, loops, functions, and built-in data structures.
Prerequisites: Extensive prior coding experience on Scratch or Minecraft Modding
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
Python for AI (Artificial Intelligence) - Level 2 (Grades 5-6) Do you want your child to be ahead of the coding game?
Description In unit 2 of our Python coding course, students will begin using Python for AI and data science. We will explore more advanced programming elements of Python such as dictionaries and files, and learn how to employ Python’s powerful modules to build games, stories and real-world data projects.
Prerequisites: Completion of Python for AI 1 - Level 1
Requirements: Device with Zoom, a web browser, and internet connectivity
