The majority of samples processed through the Water Quality Laboratory are from each of the Water System’s four wastewater reclamation facilities. Each facility is issued a NPDES permit which contains the parameters required for monitoring, as well as discharge limits for each parameter.
Each day, the laboratory receives samples collected at different stages of the treatment process. After analysis is completed, all results are entered into a database system for reporting to plant personnel. Data for the final effluent (what’s leaving the plant) is also reported to EPD monthly to ensure compliance with established permitted limitations. Other samples taken throughout the treatment process are used to assist plant staff in making important operational decisions.
