Major traffic safety and operational improvements at the East Cobb intersection of Sewell Mill Road and Johnson Ferry Road will result in two temporary road closures this summer.
These partial road closures will impact travel and cause motorists to use detours for the duration of the project.
Beginning Thursday, May 26, and continuing through Sunday, July 31, a section of Sewell Mill Road from Johnson Ferry Road to Benthill Drive will close with access to area driveways maintained at all times.
Beginning Thursday, May 26, and continuing through Sunday, July 31, a section of Pine Road from Sewell Mill Road to Wandering Rose Lane will close with access to area driveways maintained at all times.
“We purposefully scheduled this project to happen when school was out,” said Cobb County Department of Transportation Interim Director Jim Wilgus. “Due to the large volume of work in a short period of time, construction will continue from early morning until early evening to complete these critical improvements before school opens back up Aug. 1.”
The two sections of road must be closed while construction crews relocate Pine Road, make a hill cut on Sewell Mill Road (to improve sight distance), and widen and add turn lanes at the Pine Road intersection. Crews may, at times, work until dusk. Detour information for the project includes (see map):
