Registration for Summer 2018 classes begins Monday, June 25 at 9:00 am for Cobb residents and Non-residents, both in-person & online.

 

MONDAY

Creative Pottery Hand Building #5282
Instructor: Kristen Smith

August 6 – September 17 (No class September 3)
$36 Cobb resident; $41 Non-resident; Plus $25 supply fee at registration
In this creative pottery class, you will be responsible for maintaining, rolling and wedging your clay. You will need to bring in your own hand building project ideas you would like to work on during this 5-week session. Your instructor will assist in guiding you in the projects you select. Wear clothing you will not mind getting slightly dirty.

Foundations of Pottery Hand Building #5283

Learn how to create your slab built clay projects!  Learn the basics of working with clay and various basic glazing techniques. During this session, you will create a round house luminary/candle holder, a drop plate/platter slab built casserole dish and a slab built vase. Wear clothing you do not mind getting slightly dirty, and join us for some creative fun.

History of the Mystery #5419

Detective and crime-related stories are one of the most popular genres of fiction. This series explores the history of detective fiction, the authors who were a major influence on its development, and books and films in its major subgenres.

Tai Chi-Qigong #5287

Tai Chi emphasizes complete relaxation, and is essentially a form of “meditation in motion”.
Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”) is the Chinese philosophy and practice of aligning breath,
physical activity and awareness, for improved mental and physical health and increased energy.
This class is great for joints, stretching, flexibility, and movement. Suitable for all fitness levels.

Spanish 101
Instructor: Guadalupe Taylor
Mondays & Wednesdays: 3:00 pm-4:00pm

Always wanted to learn a second language? Now is your chance! This class will meet twice a week and in just 6 short weeks you will develop basic oral and written communication skills and be well on your way to speaking Spanish!
 

TUESDAY

Beginner Yoga #5288

Beginner yoga is appropriate for those who want a softer, slow-paced and relaxing practice. The approach includes carefully orchestrated movements, controlled pressure, and well-measured stretches, including range of motion exercises. Postures are approached in gradual steps, with plenty of time to focus on breathing and repetition so that the practice is simple to do and easy to remember. A gentle yoga style encourages a highly individualized approach to practice; meeting yoga students “where they are.” All fitness levels welcome. Please bring yoga mat to class. 

Pilates #5280

Pull out your gym mat and get ready to do a series of movements that will stabilize and strengthen your body’s core. The moves may appear simple, but take precision and control. There is a strong emphasis on technique. Pilates helps one to be stronger, develop muscle tone and gain flexibility. You may also develop better posture and a better sense of well-being.  All fitness levels welcome.  Please bring exercise mat to class.

Strong Seniors: Total Body Conditioning #5281

Total body conditioning class offers exercises for the upper and lower body designed to increase muscular strength, balance and range of movement transitions.  Resistance bands, exercise balls and weights will be used to safely perform a variety of seated and standing choreography for effective muscular strength and endurance. Get fit and have fun to energetic music!  Resistance bands and exercise balls provided; participants must provide their own weights.  Recommended for all fitness levels.

Urban Soul Line Dance #5285

Now that you’ve learned the moves, take your groove to the next level! Dance to great music dating back to the 60’s & 70’s, all the way up to the current R&B and Soul hits of today. Line Dance II is an awesome way to get into shape, meet new friends and have a great time! Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
 

FRIDAY

Low Impact Aerobics #5290

Low-impact aerobic exercise minimizes the force on your bones and joints, unlike high-impact aerobics, which commonly involves vigorous jumping, shuffling and bouncing motions. Low impact reduces your risk of injuries and makes this type of exercise ideal for beginners or seniors.  Low impact shouldn't be confused with low intensity; low-impact activity can still significantly raise heart rate and benefit cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Get a good work out while protecting bones and joints! Please bring a small towel to class.

Intermediate Yoga #5289

Take your yoga practice to the next level. This flow-based class will help bring greater flexibility, strength, and sense of connection to the body. Class will begin with breathing and meditation techniques and move into an exploration into what the body is capable of today. Modifications are provided, however this class is best suited for those with previous yoga experience. Your body and mind will feel restored and renewed! Please bring your yoga mat to class.    

Acoustic Guitar 101 #5291

Learn the basics of playing acoustic guitar in a casual setting. Topics covered include how to tune your instrument, basic chords and strumming techniques. Participants should be able to play a simple piece by the end of the session. Supply list available at front desk.
